This striking original mid-century modernist painting features a bold expressionist portrait rendered in heavy impasto. Using a masterful palette knife technique, the artist created a moody, sculptural surface with deep burgundy and earth-toned abstract elements.
Authenticity is verified by the "Anco Bilt, Glendale NY" stamps on the 24" x 36" wooden stretcher bars and the traditional tack-and-canvas construction, dating this piece to the mid-20th century. While unsigned, the work exudes the confident, gestural hand characteristic of the Post-War era.
The piece displays a beautiful, authentic "craquelure" (fine surface cracking) throughout the thickest paint layers. This stable crazing adds a desirable vintage patina and storied character, making it a standout addition to MCM or Dark Academia interiors.
Item condition: Vintage. Features stable, age-appropriate crazing and fine surface cracking (craquelure) in the impasto layers. Stretcher bars are in good structural condition.
