This product is an antique American Civil War soldier's book entitled, "The Gallant Ninety-Fourth". The book is a "Record of the Ninety-Fourth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in the War of the Rebellion". This volume was gifted by James Hetherington to his daughter as evidenced by his inscription which reads: "To May H. Mellinger From Her Father James Hetherington, Piqua April 7, 1888, Page 120". This father was one of the soldiers listed as having enlisted in 1862 according to the information found on page 120 of this record. His service record is here in its entirety. Having provenance and the evidence of this man wanting his child to be aware of his achievements is priceless. The front endpaper page is detached. The remainder of the book block seems secure. There is some wear along the edges, corners and covers, as photographed. There is a bit of damage to the spine in a couple of spots, see photos. The only mark besides Mr. Hetherington's inscription is a small x placed next to his name on page 120 to make certain his daughter did not overlook it. A significant historical find.
